CONCURSO PÚBLICO
PRAÇA URBANA
YEAR 2003
AREA 16,116m2
LOCATION Alcanena, Portugal
The square — It is presented as a generating element of great dynamic force, projecting around itself urban and landscape features that establish strong relationships with the surrounding context.
The amphitheater — An element that emerges against the natural terrain, framed by a group of large trees that conceal views of the cemetery.
The hotel platform — In the hotel quadrant, we propose an urban scenario materialized as a platform/belvedere, animated by concrete benches that contain trees illuminated by recessed spotlights.
The green areas — The remaining quadrants respond to the need for green spaces, where the invitation to linger is reinforced by sequences of trees.
Thus, the quadrant near the market is animated by circular benches painted in various colors, while the opposite quadrant hosts two grassy mounds, inviting passersby to multiple experiences (walking, running, lying down, …).
The water — For the square, we designed two reflecting pools that contribute to restoring environmental balance while also enhancing the square with the subtlety of their sound and image.
Accessibility — The proposal aims to invite people to experience this space through gently sloping ramps, free of physical barriers, and with parking spaces adapted for people with reduced mobility.
